Guidelines For Property Development. American Petroleum Institute along with the
Liquid Petroleum Pipeline Industry developed these guidelines to improve understanding
and increase awareness of the nature of underground pipelines that transport oil, petroleum products,
natural gas liquids and other hazardous liquids (collectively “pipelines” or “pipeline” throughout this document)
and how to conduct land development and use activity near pipeline rights-of-way. Note the requirements
for this guideline may vary among pipeline operators so it’s important to check with the pipeline operator before design phase and/or commencement of work.
